Jeff TolerFounder


Jeff is a registered patent attorney with over 25 years of experience in technology and related intellectual property matters representing corporate clients including many Fortune 500 companies and institutionally funded private companies. His expertise covers a wide range of intellectual property areas including patent acquisition and monetization, patent brokering, patent preparation, prosecution, and portfolio development, IPRs, opinions, and IP related financing and other transactions. His practice fields include communications, computer hardware, software, storage, electronics, and medical devices. Jeff has significant experience in developing and implementing high-value patent strategies and is known for bringing sophistication and creativity to the challenges of IP strategy and patent monetization.

Prior to founding Toler Law Group, Jeff led the IP/Technology Transactions Group for Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR) in Austin, Texas. His background also includes service as the General and IP Counsel for various groups within Motorola, including Motorola’s Corporate Strategy and Wireless Groups. Prior to being in-house at Motorola, Jeff performed patent litigation and prosecution work for Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione in Chicago, Illinois.

Jeff has a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering with Highest Distinction from Purdue University, a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Chicago at Loyola School of Law. Jeff was a Senior Law Journal Member for the University of Chicago at Loyola School of Law where he received the Loyola Merit Scholarship and was awarded the AmJur Award for Intellectual Property, Contracts, and Law & Economics.

Jeff worked as a Research and Development Engineer for five years at AT&T Bell Laboratories. He is admitted to practice in the states of Texas and Illinois, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
